The Brewer’s Art

Monday, August 20th, 2007

brewers.gifLast Friday, friends and family joined my husband and me at Brewer’s Art in Mt. Vernon for our rehearsal dinner. Brewer’s Art’s website describes the restaurant and brewery as:

Set in a grand Mt. Vernon townhouse, The
Brewer’s Art offers many temptations for
your palate. Our seasonally-influenced menu
of European-style country fare features meats,
fish, seafood, pasta, and vegetarian offerings.
Dinner is served daily between 5:30pm -
9:00pm (later on Thursdays, Fridays and
Saturdays) and light fare is available from
4:00pm - 11:00pm. Our creative pastry chef
prepares our homemade desserts.

In addition to brewing our fine beers on the
premises, we offer a carefully picked selection
of beers and fine wines from around the world,
and one of Baltimore’s best selections of
scotches and spirits.

Everyone raved about the service and the food. We felt free to move around the long table for fifteen guests and mingle after the three-course meal. A few weeks before the dinner, we chose two first course options and four entree options to offer our guests. The dessert was chef’s special and the fruit torte and flourless chocolate cake was outstanding! Although we were in the same room with other parties, the event still felt intimate. In addition, the home brewed beers were an enjoyable treat for out of town guests.

Going to the Chapel…

Wednesday, August 8th, 2007

due.jpgIn almost every post, I’ve mentioned my fiance. Soon, he will be my husband and we are very pleased with the site of our wedding. Linwood’s Restaurant has been wonderful to work with over the past eight months. From the ceremony to the last dance we will be celebrating in the private sister restaurant- Due (pronounced “doo-ay”).

Here is their philosophy:
“We pride ourselves on our dedication to wonderful food, wines, and desserts. We invite you to dine in one of our two restaurants, to enjoy our outstanding food and service, and to experience cuisine from the open kitchens of our four star restaurant, Linwoods, and its sister restaurant, Due. Our philosophy is to be the best in creating unique dining and catering experiences. ”

Organizing the wedding with Leslie at Linwood’s/Due has been a relaxed and enjoyable experience. Plus, the tasting for the three course meal was delicious and a fun event. The food is phenomenal and the service is friendly and seamless. I feel very confident about hosting our big day at Linwood’s/Due and I recommend it to anyone in Baltimore looking for a warm, intimate, and classy place for their wedding day.

HealthQuestLogoWeb.jpgHere are a few of the many exhibitors as described on the conference webpage:

The BeeWell Company: The BeeWell Company was created to provide high quality, cost effective, Personal Home Care Products centered around the Three Pillars of Integrative Health: Detoxification, Nourishment and Regeneration with a unity of body, mind and spirit.

Breathe Books: breathe books will provide books, music and other items to enhance your experience at the conference. Presenters will be on hand to sign copies of the books and CDs at our table throughout the day.

There will also be workshops and keynote programs throughout the day, including:

Maintaining a Sense of Well-Being in Times of Radical Change with Carol Fitzpatrick:
We are beings of light who have come to liberate ourselves from the shackles of the mind. But we cannot do so if we have forgotten the very truth of who we are. We are not the body, and we are not the mind that tells us that we are to be afraid of change. Learn tools and strategies for rising above the strife and turmoil in turbulent times. Learn how to be the change you so desire for the world.

Breath of the Soul with Adam Gainsburg:Times of great change often send us searching for something real, something stable to hold onto. They also will often bring us to question hidden assumptions about our life. Join Adam and experience the Breath of the Soul, an elegantly simple, unique meditation experience to root you deeply in your Center, the place in you that does not change, that is timeless, that is eternal.

Soul Journey with the Native American Flute with Jan Seiden:
If you could hear the song of your soul calling to you from Creation, how would you answer? How would you manifest this song in your conscious life? Jan Seiden and her Native American flutes lead us on a journey of discovery with sound and imagery to the sanctuary of the soul. The timeless voice of these flutes speaks to our deep ancestral memories and awakens us. Combined with breath work, the music channeled through Jan’s flutes guides us in gaining new soul-level awareness of our direct connection to Creation. From this place we may manifest our soul journey in increasingly profound and responsible ways.

The Spice Company-Romantic and Delicious Baltimore Restaurant

Monday, August 6th, 2007

candlelight.jpgOn the last night of Restaurant Week (although I’ve heard that many restaurants continue the special menu throughout August) my fiance and I visited Spice Restaurant. We were welcomed by cheerful staff and seated in a romantic corner of the restaurant. The room was filled with candle light and soft, warm lighting from chandeliers. Large, cushioned booths line the room and there is a luxurious lounge in the center of the bar and restaurant.

The meal started with warm breads. For the appetizer, I had the House Salad with Shallot Vinaigrette and Toasted Almonds and my fiance had Crab Lauren with Colossal Blue Crab, Beets, Avocado in a Citrus Vinaigrette (he is much more adventurous than me). As an entree, I had the Roasted Eggplant, Tomato, Artichoke, Mushroom and Edamame with Quinoa Salad and my other half had New York Strip Steak and Gorgonzola- Rosemary Potatoes. We were both fully satisfied with our meals and my fiance even had room to finish off the last few bites of my meal. Finally, for dessert I enjoyed the chocolate cake (with mousse-filled layers and rich and dense frosting). My fiance relished the cheese cake, his all time favorite dessert. This is the perfect spot for anyone looking for a romantic spot for dinner or a place to have a comfortable and classy dinner with friends and family.

Best of Baltimore-Cast your vote!

Friday, August 3rd, 2007

bob_2006The Best of Baltimore is here again and it is every business owners hope to have this honor (and publicity). I feel especially passionate about this year’s poll because of my involvement with Baltimore Yoga Village. A lot of people still don’t know about this Baltimore jewel. There is so much more to experience at BYV than you’ll find at other studios. Outside of classes, there are musical events, dance workshops, children’s programs, Satsang (coming soon), art shows, and the best hatha yoga classes I’ve ever taken.

Here are the rules from the Best of Baltimore website:

It’s time to speak your mind without saying a word as you scribble or type your picks for all that is best in Baltimore.

* You must fill out your name and address along with a phone number and/or e-mail address where you can be reached.
* You have to vote in at least 25 categories.
* You can’t use the same answer in more than three categories.
* Vague answers like “that place on that street” will be ignored.
* And absolutely, for reals, no ballot stuffing.

Not sure what constitutes ballot stuffing in the super-scientific world of the CP Readers Poll? You are welcome to encourage people to vote for your business or artistic endeavor. You can link to the poll on your web site or hand them out at your business. But you can’t fill out polls in other people’s names. Got it? Great.

All ballots must be submitted by August. 31. The person with the best Best Reason We Should Invite You to the Best of Baltimore Party response will receive two invitations to the Sept. 20 Best of Baltimore Party.

Towson Dance Studio

Wednesday, August 1st, 2007

rumba.jpgLast night, my fiance and I took our first dance lesson at Towson Dance Studio. Like many other couples, we are preparing for our first dance. The studio is near Towson University, at 31 Allegheny Ave.

Our instructor, Tiffany, led us through a one-hour lesson in the Rumba. She was professional, fun, and prepared for our lesson. Tiffany had already listened our song and structured our dance. We were led through the basic steps, some turns, our entrance and exit, and a dip at the end. The lesson was finished in a flash, but we are prepared to practice at home for the next couple weeks. After our private lesson at Towson Dance Studio, we will be confident on our big day! I highly recommend this studio to anyone looking for high-quality dance instruction.wedding.jpg
